The "Positive Spin" Television Program
"Positive Spin" is a news and
public affairs television program that promotes positive, innovative
and solution oriented news from around the world. The program
is a media project of Unity Foundation, a non-profit organization
with a 33 year history of promoting world peace, cooperation
and unity through the production of special educational and cultural
events, media campaigns, television programming and local community
events.
"Positive Spin" has been airing
for the past 10 years. The program airs nationally on FreespeechTV
on the DISH Satellite Network (up to ten times each month.) The
DISH Satellite Network has 30 million homes as subscribers. In
addition, FreeSpeechTV is carried on 183 cable access stations
throughout the United States.
The show's format features Bill McCarthy,
as the Host, introducing segments on national and local issues.
The program also features UN and Foreign Affairs Correspondent
Kim Weichel, introducing segments on the United Nations and international
concerns. The show's Youth Correspondent, Tracey Quesada highlights
issues of concern to youth and children.
The program includes public service announcements
promoting the important work of non-profit organizations, educational
institutions, and socially responsible businesses that are creating
positive social change in the world.
The show's segments focus on: 1.) solutions
to local, national, and international problems; 2.) programs
and projects that build sustainable communities; 3.) youth and
children's perspectives on creating a better world; 4.) innovators
in the performing and visual arts; and 5.) positive uses of new
communications technologies.
"Positive Spin" has showcased
a number of special presentations including: A Tribute to UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the Staff of the United Nations
in recognition of their receiving the Centennial Nobel Peace
Prize, Produced by Unity Foundation; the San Francisco Premiere
of Emmy Award Winning Director Dan Arden's environmental film
"A Quiet Revolution", narrated by Meryl Streep: the
Turner Broadcasting Systems film "One Child, One Voice"
by Producer, Barbara Pyle. The film features the music of Kenny
Loggins; the official documentary of the United Nations 60th
Anniversary Celebration in San Francisco, Produced by Unity Foundation;
a television documentary of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's
first public address and interview in San Francisco following
his election as Secretary-General, Produced by Unity Foundation;
and featured films from the United Nations Association Film Festival.
